Azure-based cloud solution transformed image storage and management for a European vehicle rental leader

by UST

OUR CLIENT

This company is a leading commercial vehicle rental provider operating across Western Europe. It specializes in flexible rental solutions for businesses, offering a wide range of light commercial vehicles to support various industries. The company also provides fleet management, maintenance, and repair services to optimize vehicle performance and reduce operational downtime for its clients. With a focus on customer satisfaction, the company plays a crucial role in supporting business transportation needs across multiple sectors.

THE CHALLENGE

Integrating a secure, cloud-based image system with existing infrastructure

The client was encountering significant challenges with the indexing of its image data. The company’s existing cloud storage infrastructure was insufficient to handle the growing storage demands of its expanding business, and it lacked the necessary security to store its sensitive, large image data. This created an urgent need for a scalable cloud storage solution that could seamlessly integrate with the company’s existing systems. One major hurdle was establishing a virtual private network (VPN) to enable high-speed, secure transfers of highly sensitive information to the new cloud-based image storage system. However, the client’s infrastructure was not fully compatible with cloud service integration. Furthermore, the client’s IT team lacked the expertise to configure a scalable external cloud solution that could meet the company’s growing requirements.

THE TRANSFORMATION

A scalable, secure Microsoft Azure cloud storage solution with VPN, access control, and data categorization

UST proposed a robust cloud storage solution for the client using Microsoft Azure, enhancing scalability, security, and seamless integration with existing systems. The solution began with the creation of a dedicated cloud account with sufficient storage for efficient processing of large images. A VPN was established within Azure to ensure secure, fast internet access for data transfers, providing a low-latency connection between the client’s on-premise applications and cloud storage. UST also implemented account and storage access policies to control who could view, upload, or modify images, further enhancing data security. The solution included a data temperature system that categorized images by usage. UST continued to provide post-implementation management, ensuring user access control, security, and data storage maintenance to preserve system integrity and protection.

Following UST’s solution, the company can now securely store and manage large volumes of images in the cloud with the flexibility to scale as needed without hardware limitations. Additionally, the company can efficiently transfer data between systems and the cloud using a secure, low-latency VPN—a capability that wasn’t possible with the previous infrastructure.

THE IMPACT

Improved scalability, security, and cost-efficiency

The client experienced significant improvements in storage efficiency with UST’s cloud-based solution. The new system was more scalable, secure, and cost-effective for handling large volumes of image data. By leveraging a cloud-based model, the client could easily expand storage capacity as needed without investing in expensive on-premise equipment. This shift allowed for smoother handling of large volumes of images at a reduced cost. The use of a centralized storage system streamlined image management, eliminating duplicates and ensuring equal access across teams. Automated processes for image uploading, access, and categorization greatly improved workflows and significantly reduced manual data collection efforts. The newly implemented VPN ensured optimal data transfer speeds between internal systems and the cloud, supporting business continuity. It also enhanced security by controlling user access through strict governance policies. Overall, this solution met both the client’s immediate and future image storage needs, fostering secure and efficient business growth.
